These Floating Eyeballs were used in the Bloody Punch at my vegan Halloween party. They were easy to make and added an eery touch to the celebration. They also helped keep the punch cold.
Oops, I forgot to take a picture of the punch in the punchbowl, with these eyeballs floating on the top, but you can imagine what it looked like.
These eyeballs were made in the bottom half of some small plastic mold I found at a thrift store. I’m not sure what it was intended for, but I used them to freeze ice.
For the colored part of the eye, I simply dropped in a dried cranberry into each compartment of the mold before filling it with water and freezing.
They finished eyeballs popped out easily and floated on top the punch.
Vegan Halloween Party Food Recipe: Bloody Punch
2 parts cranberry-raspberry juice
2 parts apple juice
1 part grape juice
3 Tablespoons dried peppermint
2 cups boiling water
Pour the boiling water over the peppermint in a teapot and let steep until cool.
In a large punchbowl, mix together juices and cooled mint infusion. Taste and adjust proportions as needed.
Top with floating eyeballs ice, or something else equally gory. You can use a floating hand made from freezing water in a glove, like we did at this vegan Halloween party.
Simply fill a clean latex or rubber glove with water. Tie the end closed. Drape over a bag of frozen peas so you can mold the fingers into curves. (This is optional, but it makes it look a little more realistic.)
Freeze overnight, or until firm. Carefully remove the hand from the glove to serve it, and it will float eerily on top the punch. I used some milk and orange juice, to give it a flesh-like appearance.
